THE JOB:

As a Filtration Life Support System Specialist at Shark Reef Aquarium inside Mandalay Bay, you play a critical role in maintaining the complex systems that support our aquatic and terrestrial animals. You'll help ensure a healthy environment for the animals and a safe, memorable experience for every guest who visits. By keeping our filtration systems running smoothly, you help bring the wonder of the ocean to life for all who explore the Reef.

THE STARTING RATE: $20.90

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Operate, control, maintain, and retrofit life support and water process piping system and controls for a 1.6-million-gallon world-class aquarium facility; monitor and check filters, backwashing according to schedule, and make adjustments including checking exhibit temperatures and levels, monitoring ozone generator and settings

  • Monitoring and checking filters, adhering to backwashing schedules, and making necessary adjustments, including monitoring exhibit temperatures and levels, as well as ozone generator settings.

  • Conducting thorough monitoring of water quality, covering temperature, salinity, pH, ORP, and clarity, adhering to aquarium standards

  • Assists in the mixing of synthetic sea salts to produce an essential ongoing supply of saltwater for exhibit specimens

  • Maintain frequent and effective communication with the Life Support Systems Manager

  • Maintain and repair electric motors ranging in size from ΒΌ horsepower to 25 horsepower and pumps up to 1,500 gallons per minute

  • Collaborating closely with the aquarists with handling of fish and reptiles as directed

  • Complete daily records and maintain operational logs


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • 2+ years of prior relevant related experience

  • Experience in a water treatment plant or an aquarium life support system, working with centrifugal pumps and motors, knowledge of maintenance and preventative maintenance practices for pumps

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
