THE JOB:

As a Banquet Manager, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of banquet and event operations, ensuring seamless execution of meetings, conventions, trade shows, and special events. This role oversees food and beverage service, event setup and breakdown, staffing, scheduling, payroll, training, inventory management, and operational planning while maintaining compliance with company standards and labor agreements. Working closely with Catering, Banquet Supervisors, and Assistant Managers, the Banquet Manager drives operational excellence, develops high-performing teams, and ensures every event is executed with precision, professionalism, and exceptional service.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Manages assigned operational functions within the department consistent with the strategic plan and vision for the department and division
  • Manages and oversees operations of cash concessions and snack bars on the tradeshow floor
  • Works closely with Catering Manager regarding servicing of events
  • Attends preplanning meetings with Catering Manager for upcoming Groups
  • Works directly with Banquet Supervisors and Assistant Managers on staffing ratios, room lay outs, and operation of events, menu implementation and operation of events
  • Oversees the Assistant Managers and Banquet Supervisors and ensures they are following department and hotel policies and procedures and adhering to the collective bargaining agreement
  • Reviews Banquet Event Orders and has a complete understanding of the events as planned by the client and catering manager which is shared with the Banquet Supervisors and Managers handling events
  • Manages and participates in the ordering and inventory control of consumable products and some equipment while maintaining an acceptable COG
  • Manages the delivery and measurement of guest service within assigned department(s) consistent with the company’s core service standards and brand attributes
  • Provides input into the research, development, evaluation and implementation of new products, services, technology and processes to ensure the property's competitive position and in anticipation of changing guest needs within the dynamic hospitality and gaming environment
  • Attends classes to expand product knowledge, human resource knowledge and fiscal efficiencies
  • Creates a work environment that promotes teamwork, performance feedback, recognition, mutual respect and employee satisfaction; quality hiring, training and succession planning processes that encompass the company’s diversity commitment; compliance with company policies, legal requirements and collective bargaining agreements
  • Able to create weekly banquet schedules in accordance with proper rotation and in compliance with the collective bargaining agreement
  • Participates in pre-booking of banquet service staff for all large and high-profile events
  • Conducts Step One meetings with shop stewards and banquet staff with the goal of resolving issues whenever possible so as to alleviate any board of adjustments or grievances
  • Ensures Service Standard Training is current, being communicated effectively to staff and that ongoing training is occurring within all areas of department
  • Works closely with supervisors and assistant managers on developing their employee management skills and styles
  • Practices and observes safety rules and regulations and encourages others to do the same
  • Participates in staff meetings with Banquet Team to ensure we are remaining consistent with our Strategic Plan and vision for the department. Communicates any new policies and procedures
  • Completes all duties in accordance with the property's standards and procedures.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have two (2) years of prior relevant experience recently within a large convention center or banquet operation holding a position of at least a department assistant manager or director
  • Prior experience in banquet services with a solid background in event setup and operational execution (preferred)

Pay Range:

The pay range for this role is:

$51,200.00 - $68,300.00

This range represents a good faith estimate of the salary range that MGM reasonably expects to pay for the position upon hire. The actual salary offer will take into account a wide range of factors, including location.

This is a commission-eligible position.

Employees in this position are eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plans, and time off plans. Specific program offerings vary by eligibility factors such as geographic location, employment status, and union membership.
